Market Growth

Monday 16th March 2020 - Sunday 22th March 2020

How did you perform vs the market?
What is the difference between IndexTrak Tracker and FI Market Cap?

The FI Market Cap is an estimation of the amount of money that is currently invested in Football Index. It can be used as way of gauging the sentiment of the market as a whole.

IndexTrak is the benchmark that should be used to measure your portfolio's growth against. If you bought an equal amount of shares in every player, also known as buying the market, you would match the IndexTrak Tracker. If you are consistently under performing the tracker then you need to rethink your strategy!

If you would like to know more about either market measurement and how it can benefit your trading email contact@indextrak.co.uk or DM @FIMarketCap on Twitter.

News of the Week

In the past week there have been some major announcements across the footballing world in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is the summary of the top 5 leagues current positions:

England: All football has been suspended until 30th April 2020 at the earliest but the Premier League announced they intend to finish the 19/20 season as soon as safe to do so.

FranceLigue 1 was suspended indefinitely on 13th March and they have also expressed similar sentiments as the Premier League that the current season must be finished. The leagues president Bernard Caiazzo has earmarked 15th June 2020 as the most ambition return date with it more likely to occur in July or August.

Spain: Luis Rubiales, the Spanish Football Federation's President, has insisted that the current league will be completed but it will not continue on 3rd April 2020 as originally planned but will now wait for the government's go-ahead before concluding the 19/20 La Liga season.

Germany: Bundesliga still has an official return date marked for 3rd April 2020 but expect this to be postponed indefinitely when they meet on 30th March 2020.

Italy: Serie A is still officially postponed until 3rd April 2020 but Gabriele Gravina, Head of the Italian Football Federation, has, still rather ambitiously, stated a target date of 2nd May 2020 to continue with the 19/20 season.

Unfortunately, league football is not alone in suffering the consequences of the pandemic as Euro 2020 has been officially postponed. The International Competition will begin on 11th June 2021.

FI have adjusted their treatment of articles regarding COVID-19. Their initial policy was to remove all articles mentioning the virus became increasingly controversial as virtually no newspaper could write an article without mentioning it. They are now only removing 'media articles that mention the Coronavirus in direct relation to a player's Coronavirus diagnosis or personal health risk in the headline of the story'.

The Week Ahead

Tuesday 24th March

The Double Dividends offer which was announced last week is set to end on 3rd April, the original date of planned return for many leagues. This means Football Index have had to formulate further plans now the postponement of league football is set to continue for longer. The announcement will be made on Tuesday. Whilst many of these announcements usually result in significant market volatility it will be interesting to see how it reacts in a time of very high spreads.

All Week

Subject to the announcement on Tuesday from FI we can continue to expect Triple Media Days with Double Dividends. Will the transfer speculation ramp up another notch and will we see more of the targets make it into the Dividend spots as Coutinho did this week?

of the week

Sometimes it is very easy to get caught up in the FI world when we debating with fellow traders online that there is a life beyond this fantastic platform. It is in times like this it can feel most real. All of us one way or another will be affected by this Pandemic but no-one more than the NHS workers who will be doing everything they can to save us, our friends and loved ones over the coming weeks and months.

Commendably, MustafenBauerFI has made a Just Giving page to help the NHS workers we all owe so much to. If you are in a position to support the cause please contribute.

Quote of the week

"Every trader has strengths and weaknesses. Some are good holders of winners, but may hold their losers a little too long. Others may cut their winners a little short, but are quick to take their losses. As long as you stick to your own style, you get the good and bad in your own approach"
